The Franklin L. Burns School of Real Estate & Construction Management offers the most advanced education for the business of the built environment both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Burns School has one of the few programs in the country that integrates the business side + the build side of the construction industry.

Our undergraduate education offers a deep dive concentration in construction management, property development, or real estate after every student completes a rigorous Business core (finance, accounting, management, business analytics, and marketing) and then a rigorous Built Environment core consisting of Construction Management, Project Delivery, and Real Estate courses. To complete our intention to teach the full-life cycle of the built environment, a Capital Projects Asset Management course caps off the program. In addition to performing at the project level, the Burns School is committed to developing leaders who are prepared to generate greater value, mitigate risks, and eliminate waste through the full-cycle of the construction process.

Our graduate students can select from either an on-campus or online experience. Graduate students build a fully customized program from core competency or advanced course offerings in construction management, integrated project delivery, property development or real estate. In addition, advanced courses in Regenerative Development, Strategic Foresight, Design-Build, and Integrated Project Leadership are available.

Keynote Speakers

Opening Kick Off Speaker

Clean, Environmental, Colorado Comedy

Humorist and Advocate for “Unplugging from Technology”

Recognized as a smart comedian, this former ski bum operates from a secluded cabin at 8,524 feet in the Colorado Rockies – a perfect perch, or so he claims, for comedic perspective.

A regular on the club and corporate comedy circuit, his clean and clever comedy act provides a unique, first-hand perspective on outdoor life touching on skiing, camping, wildlife, mountain climbing and more, making him perfect for any function or event in search of an outdoor/Colorado-lifestyle angle.

His humor articles have appeared in more than 40 publications, including Cabin Life Magazine, ESPN’s, and the prestigious Explorer Club’s Explorers Journal.

When not working or writing about himself in the third person, Jeff spends his time sitting on his cabin’s front deck in tattered shorts and a thick Patagonia fleece jacket brooding about nothing in particular.

Jeff’s kick off presentation, “Seize the day, not the phone” is part-motivational, part-informative – but always funny – this multi-media presentation, with aid of his backcountry photos, encourages audience members to unplug from their screens, get outside, and pursue exclamation point moments.

Thursday Luncheon

Creator of BIMStorm™, Kimon pioneers fundamental change in problem solving, knowledge capture and integrated practice. His award-winning, open-standards design software for real-time, global collaboration represents the future of our design and construction professions as demonstrated in his practice.

The building industry is addicted to the status quo, limiting our ability to solve critical issues of our environment.

Kimon’s newest initiative, BIMStorm AEC Game Changers, identifies processes, tools and people with knowledge that can break this addiction. In his presentation, Kimon will invite like-minded innovators and educators to break bad stovepipes of the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Owners, Operators and Occupants (AECOOO) world.

Friday Luncheon

My approach is simple: stay curious, keep your eye on the horizon, be generous with your talents and challenge the givens. I encourage teams to look beyond ‘what needs fixing,’ and instead focus on ‘what is possible.’ Stimulate the imagination….asking ‘why?’ and ‘why not?’ Unleash the creative thinking desperately needed to solve some of the greatest challenges our society faces today.

With a background in business management, engineering, architecture and construction, strengthened by decades of firsthand design experience, Deb champions and executes short- and long-term strategies to continually elevate CannonDesign within our industries. She partners with firmwide market, service line and practice group leaders to identify new service offerings, investigate potential markets, form strategic partnerships in alternative deliveries and expand our geographic reach. Deb has an expert understanding of the cross-market factors shaping industry trends – using this knowledge to better serve clients and advance our firm’s strategic framework.

For attendees arriving to the conference a day early, a special invitation to all ASC attendees to the University of Denver’s “Voices of Experience” special event at the Newman Center. The Voices of Experience speaker series at the Daniels College of Business brings CEOs and significant top-level leaders into the DU community to share the lessons learned from their triumphs, mistakes and decisions as they navigated through their careers. The April 9th event will feature Rhys Duggan, CEO of Revesco Properties and will be moderated by Dr. Barbara Jackson, Director of the Burns School of Real Estate and Construction Management. Revesco Properties is the developer of the River Mile Project along the South Platte River. This new urban district represents a major step in the evolution of downtown Denver. Further details to be provided.
